A story with diamonds

A jeweller comes back from South Africa, with diamonds. He notices he has an odd number of them, and that if he puts any of the diamonds aside, he always can split the remaining ones onto the two scales of a balance in a manner to have equilibrium in weight and in population.

Problem: show that all the diamonds are the same weight.
